To my mother,
The woman who birthed me. The woman who has always been there for me, who I know will always stand by me no matter what. From the day that I was born you no longer made decisions for just yourself, you have always put me and my little sister first and for that I thank you.
Thank you for the unconditional love, thank you for loving me even there may have been times when I didn’t deserve it. Thank you for always being there to pick me up when I’m at my lowest points. Thank you for teaching me kindness. Thank you for never turning your back on me. Thank you for always trusting me. Thank you for being the first person to show me what love was. Thank you for always being my number 1 fan. Thank you for teaching me what my own self-worth was. Thank you for believing in me even when I didn’t believe in my self. Thank you for being my mom.
Growing up watching you, showed me my first example of what a strong black woman was, and how you’ll are true superheroes. I’ve seen you do the impossible, even when we didn’t have you made it work mom and for that, I will always be grateful. We never had a ton of money but one thing we always did have was a ton of love. Even with our limited funds you still showed me and Dani what a vacation and getting away from for a little bit was.
Through all of the struggles that I had with Dad (before we started working on our relationship), you were the one that kept me sane. You are the reason that today I am mentally and emotionally okay, I always had a problem opening up and you are the reason that I am getting better at it.
You are the reason that I will always treat women with love and respect. You are the reason that I am in the position I am today. You are the reason for all my progress. I know that I give you a hard time for always putting everyone else before yourself, but it is the reason why I want to always help people. You are the reason why I want to have a positive impact on the world.
Mom, I want you to know that your struggles do not go unnoticed and I appreciate you for enduring all of it because if you didn’t there would be no me.
Also congrats on that green card, I’m so happy that you can finally go back home to Trinidad, and I’m happy that you, me and Dani get to take that first trip back together.
I love you always mom.
